Are you looking for a scenic and breathtakingly beautiful getaway this Summer? Good food, endless hiking opportunities, stunning views, popular attractions and lots of history; does that sound right up your street?
Then why not visit Yorkshire this Summer, they don’t call it ‘Gods Country’ for nothing!
Here are just a few spots that might tempt you to book that trip, or if you’re close enough, to inspire to plan a day out!
Waterfalls
Many people are oblivious to just how many waterfalls there are in Yorkshire – hint, there’s a lot!
Obviously, you’ve got the popular tourist spots (always worth a visit!) – Hardraw Force, Aysgarth Falls, and the famous Ingleton Waterfall trail, but Yorkshire has so many hidden gems worth adding to your list if you’re a keen waterfall chaser!
Wharfdale and Wensleydale in particular are home to many amazing waterfalls!

Ivelet Bridge, Swaledale
This old carriageway stone bridge is located in the hamlet of Ivelet in Swaledale. The narrow, single-span, bridge is dated back to the 16th century. Well worth a visit if you love scenic areas and history!

Bolton Abbey
The perfect day out for the whole family! There is so much to see; the priory church and ruins, stepping stones, Strid wood, the valley of desolation and much more. With many choices of walks and trails in this beautiful scenic area, why not take a picnic whilst enjoying the views or treat yourself to lunch in one of the tearooms.
Hull Pot
Hull Pot is a stunning spot, not far from the summit of Pen-y-Ghent.
It’s a collapsed cavern but doesn’t have much to explore underground. It’s often dry but if you catch it after some rainfall you will experience a waterfall over the edge and very occasionally you may see it completely filled to the brim. Hull Pot is a spectacular sight from the top, measuring 300 ft long, 60 ft wide and 60 ft deep.
Avoid getting too close to the edge as there are no fences!

Ribblehead Viaduct
Undoubtedly on most people’s list to visit, the famous Ribblehead Viaduct lies at the base of the Yorkshire 3 peaks (Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside) and is a must-see when visiting the Dales.
Whether you’re wanting a short stroll under the historic arches or a big hike with the panoramic views of the viaduct, you won’t be disappointed when visiting Ribblehead Viaduct.
Lots of free parking, which is always a bonus!

Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge
Many people flock to Yorkshire to hike the famous Yorkshire 3 Peaks – as mentioned above, Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Whernside. The challenge itself is completing the 25-mile circuit, which covers all 3 mountains, in 12 hours or less.
If you don’t fancy tackling the challenge you could always hike them on separate days and still enjoy beautiful views of the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales. 3 fantastic hikes!

Buttertubs Pass
This breathtaking pass winds its way from Hawes in Wensleydale right over the tops to Thwaite in Swaledale, passing by the 20 meter deep potholes which is what buttertubs is famous for. With panoramic views of the surrounding fells and valleys, this beautiful road is 100% worth taking, whether it’s by car or if you’re brave enough to tackle it by bike or on foot!

Semerwater
Semerwater Lake is located just 4 miles outside of the popular honeypot town of Hawes, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
Perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming and more, this scenic lake is the ideal spot for a day out with the family, especially if a picnic is packed! You could also take a campervan and stay the night (payment should be made at the farm near the car park).

Settle to Carlisle Railway
If you’re a fan of trains or scenic railways then you’ll be sure to enjoy the Settle to Carlisle line.
For travel information, tickets and train times click here.
You might even occasionally see the famous Flying Scotsman making its way through the Dales!

Small and local businesses are at the heart of each community. You may think that they just need tourists to thrive as a business but reality is, they rely on locals just as much, especially out of season!
We’ve put together a few tips on how you can support your local businesses, like Country Harvest.
Feel free to share this on social media to help out other businesses and encourage others to support local!
Shop Local
The first obvious tip for supporting local business is shop local. This doesn’t necessarily mean all the time, but whenever you can, it is best to shop local and help support the businesses that surround your community. It may cost slightly more, but it does wonders for your community and helps keeps these businesses afloat.. which benefits locals and tourists!
Shopping for groceries in your local farm shop wherever you can is not only beneficial to your local economy but it’s usually much fresher and organic! You may also find lots of products you can’t find online, such as local small suppliers.
Word of mouth
If you love your local businesses, why not shout about them!
Telling your family, friends, colleagues etc, can be so helpful. Talking costs nothing and spreading the word about the businesses in your community could really help them thrive and increase their footfall.
More customers will also allow them to grow their business benefitting both tourists and locals as they can offer more products and services, provide more job opportunities and bring in more tourism to the area.
Social Media Support
Social Media is a crucial for businesses, as is the engagement from their followers. It might sound obvious but the more engagement they get on socials, the more people will see their post/page, therefore creating a wider audience (ultimately what most businesses want!).
So next time you’re scrolling past a post on Facebook or Instagram posted by a local business, why not give it a like, share or comment, to help them out – they will definitely appreciate all the help they can get! And let’s be honest, we spend hours scrolling through social platforms, it would only take a second to engage with a local business post and help widen their reach.
Sign up to their newsletter
Not only is this a great way of keeping up to date with the local businesses that you love, it will often benefit you with sales, discounts, events and giveaway notifications which a lot of businesses do include in their newsletters.
Subscribing to their mailing list won’t cost you anything and it will help them grow as a business.
Reviews
A lot of people research reviews when searching for things to do/places to visit. But if people didn’t leave reviews for businesses then others wouldn’t have an indication of what to expect.
So, next time you visit somewhere that you love, consider taking 2 minutes out of your day to review them – Google reviews, Facebook and Trip Advisor are all helpful ways to support them. It will help them rank higher and therefore be found by new potential customers.
You may be thinking these tips are ‘obvious’ but it’s surprising how many people forget to do them, especially for businesses they visit regularly!
So what are you going to do to support your local business…?
