The overall winner will also be asked to make Country Harvest’s official anniversary cake for an event on October 20th. All ingredients supplied.

All our bread is freshly made at our bakery in Bentham; we have an award-winning butchery counter and now we have our very own candlestick maker!

Mike Ravey has gone from university lecturer to self-employed woodworker in the space of just a few short months. With no formal training, his bespoke oak accessories for the home are already selling well and he’s discovered there are a few unexpected benefits too – whisky snifters!

Mike, who lives near Clapham on the edge of the beautiful Forest of Bowland, makes bespoke chopping and cheese boards, horse name plaques, bookends and candleholders.

His ‘whisky candleholders are beautiful pieces, which would look elegant in any home. He buys the barrels and after removing the metal straps, he always has a tiny slurp of the residue of whisky in the bottom before carefully removing the individual slivers of wood called staves and turning them into tealight holders.

“The first few days after splitting a barrel are quite euphoric in the workshop because of the smell of the whisky!” he jokes.

His work is currently on show in Country Harvest’s new Homeware Cabin which is open seven days a week.

We are not opening today, Thursday March 1st, due to the adverse snowy weather conditions.
Apologies to all our customers.
